Abrahamic Family House
Location: Cultural District of Saadyiat Island
Execution Year: 2020
Status: Concept Design – Competition Entry
The Project is a “House” for Abrahamic religions with a prominent mosque, church and visitor centre that focuses on the common history and values of the main Abrahamic religions and a shared public park. The Project is located at a prominent site within Saadiyat Cultural District in Abu Dhabi, UAE and is surrounded by high profile cultural destinations and architectural icons.
The Project seeks to add to the existing fabric of tolerance by building a new Catholic Church and a Jame’e Mosque, together with a Visitor center for Abrahamic Religions, with exceptional design, in a prominent location.
Abrahamic religions have existed as one single community for centuries before being separated into three different religions but what people fail to un¬derstand is, even though these religions are different, they are the same in many other ways.
As we point¬ed out earlier, both Mosque “Jame’e” and Church have the same meaning; however, the similarities between the two religions are not confined only by the meaning of the worship place but both religions carry the same values, same morals and also both religions worship the same God.
In our solution, we wanted to emphasize on one dynamic aspect when developing our project and that is the orientation for both buildings. We wanted to create a relationship with these axis as they both represent a very important message that needs to be shown, of which the Mosque is oriented towards the Qibla/Mecca, while the Church is oriented towards the East rising sun which represent the light of Jesus.
THE 7 DAYS OF CREATION: The natural elements that are intended to be used in developing our design were taken from the “Birth of creation”, a belief that is common in both the Bible and the Quran. Both The Bible and The Quran state that in the first 3 days of the birth of creation, God created the environments and various habitats of earth.
Day 1: Light/day and darkness/night.
Day 2: The sky, which separates the waters above from the waters below.
Day 3: The waters below the sky are gathered into one place, and dry land appears.
So the birth of our project starts by taking these ele¬ments and emphasize on the relationship between them in order to create a holy experience for the visi¬tors.
The monument of acceptance is a powerful emblem of integration and acceptance of each other’s faith. Through the monument which is a physical manifes¬tation of the vertical elements of both Mosque and Church to embrace each other. The monument sits in the center of the Square of Tolerance.
The Square of Tolerance is the common space weav¬ing the two buildings. The central square receives people and educate them about the commonalities between the two religions.
The Project landscape concept follows the idea of a white fabric as a common ele¬ment in different religions. Imams and priests are using the white fabric as a symbol of God, purity and peace. In this case, the fabric is used to create an organic topography cut by the building.
Location: Lahore, Pakistan
Execution Year: 2022
Built-up Area: 536070 m²
Mabarak Centre Lahore is one that positions it as a landmark - a signature holistic and immersive community progressively blending residential, retail, commercial and hospitality functions with lavish green spaces, combined with a firm view of preserving local traditions and customs in both its components and design. The unique offering will not only serve the surrounding community, citizens and residents but will act as an attraction driving visitors from Lahore and all Pakistan as well.
The four (4) rising 300-meter supertall buildings are placed around a “central garden plaza”” encouraging indoor-outdoor living and providing a range of social opportunities for local activities, casual gatherings and fosters community-building in the context of a rapidly changing city. Towers are united by a multi-storey stepped podium composed of a series of terraces, each filled with greenery offering the city a new public space. In addition the two (2) Residential towers and Hotel with Office towers are connected via bridges with shared functions. All four towers feature strips of glazing to accentuate the visual effect of the movement and connection.
The residential part features a range of apartment typologies, shared sports facilities, a fitness centre, and a clubhouse for residents in a bridge between them. Office tower with direct access to the Ferozepur road offers A class spaces for corporate offices, ample Lobby and exhibition spaces, uninterrupted power supply, modern concept for elevators, dedicated automated parking, four duplex executive penthouses, space for Taavun HQ offices, and a helipad at the top of the tower. In the lower tower next to the Offices is placed 5-star Hotel at the lower levels and Serviced apartments at the higher levels. As efforts for the revival of cricket by the Government are underway, huge influx of spectators can be forecasted from all around the globe, hence a 5-star hotel development with views to the Nishar sports complex is natural. Part of the required hotel spaces, such as ballrooms, spills into the terraced podium adjunct to that tower. Hotel components offers different type of cafe spaces, specialty restaurants and all-day dining. Podium creates the framework for a vibrant environment for the local community while shaping a new identity. A large, vertically-stepped indoor atrium with Aquarium is situated at the center of the project and acts as a main focal point of the new Mabarak Centre Mall. The mall is filled with commercial spaces - hyper market, anchor stores, food court, small Clinique, Day-care/Nursery, and a range of entertainment zones, and of course access to the roof gardens. The basement houses parking spaces for the development along with various back of house areas for the mall and the towers.

Built-up Area: 12,636 m2
The project is located within Al Bahaya district which represents a well populated medium class residential zone that lies in a strategic location between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. It is also in close proximity to Yas Island. The area is mostly residential with some public services.

BEAD have designed the Earth Mall with a very sensible approach to create a friendly urban oasis which, in addition to the intended retail outlets, includes multi-levels of greenery, passages and water bodies. The passages are shaded with light structures as they connect the different components of the project. The carefully planted trees provide shading as well as physical masses that define boundaries of retail and entertainment spaces for different activities. The water bodies add serenity to the experience where the Falaj-inspired channels provide a subtle connection that ties the different areas together. Some areas provide a calm atmosphere for a more intimate experience, while others are very dynamic, active and lively like the kid’s playground, the outdoor sports areas and the Waha (oasis).

Fit-Out Area: 5040 m2
Abu Dhabi and the UAE more broadly has emerged as an epicentre for car enthusiasts and collectors. The passion is abundant, but the platform to enjoy it in its multiple dimensions remains limited - The Stables interiors and Fit-out design by BEAD and its associated firm Neo Architecture, caters for a venue that simultaneously provides
a platform to store, service and detail valuable automobiles whilst enabling its owners and the broader public to share and indulge in automotive passion, within multiple social dimensions. The Split Towers of our design for MIMC are designed to create a unique statement in the skyline of Dubai.
Not only a landmark on the city’s skyline, the towers, and the podium they’re built on, together form a transit-oriented hub for living, leisure and hospitality, where people can shop, stay at the hotel, pick up groceries, enjoy a meal, do exercise, or even enjoy the scenery of Sheikh Khalifa tower and the city while having coffee at the sky gardens & Bar at level 60, all in one interconnected environment.
The project is part of our ongoing research into Super living, in this case into strategies to create sustainable, healthy complex that offers a high quality of life, while also addressing future needs for greater efficiency in Dubai in times of rapid urbanization and growth.
Every element of the proposed design serves a purpose. The external central atrium for instance, created by splitting the program into two leaning towers, is designed as an ascending space of dramatic volume, creating shelter over a beautiful urban gathering arena on top of the podium.
The towers are enveloped by overlapping layers of glazed skin, forming seamless connectivity and allowing an abundance of sunlight into the spaces to introduce a unique indoor quality.
The higher tower as well as its leaning twin ends up with a challenging triangular inclined cut. At the hotel roof gardens and sky bar the cut is oriented towards the Burj Khalifa Tower, while at the owner’s penthouse in the lower tower, the cut is directed towards the Dubai Creek; both allowing fantastic views of the best attractions in the city.

The challenging triangular shape of the site which faces the main Raha canal and its proximity to the boulevard bridge, has influenced the design approach.
The building mass is sliced into three main elegantly rising strips with different lengths and heights creating an attractive appearance as well as allowing all apartments to enjoy the best scenery of the area.
This variation in height of the three GRC clad masses has generated beautiful roof gardens at four levels along with the height of the building, allowing safe gathering areas for the inhabitants.
As a result, a slick and modern identity of the design has distinguished the building and made it stand out among all neighboring developments.
Both the form and scale of the building is intermediate between the dynamic city and the static surrounding and harmonizes with neighboring buildings. On the northern side, it rises with reference to passing traffic and embracing the site forces creating space for the main entrance. The interior of the building complies with the demands for functionality, flexibility and efficiency.

This project comprised of two residential buildings on two adjacent plots. The site is fabulous, being directly situated on the Raha Canal and very close to the iconic Aldar HQ Disc Tower.
The project is developed in two stages where one of the plots is ahead of the other in construction, however the design has allowed for both buildings to be complimentary to each other, hence construed as one complex when both are completed.
The main approach of the design was to create modular residential units with diverse configuration. The buildings contain luxurious apartments of 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms apartments on multiple levels, a retail component on the canal side, as well as communal facilities represented in professional gymnasium, health club, amenities and swimming pools on roof terrace.
BEAD Designers understood the importance of the Client’s vision and development targets, therefore responded with a building design that has yielded attractive dwellings with ample space; indoors and outdoors, through spacious living areas open to big balconies and terraces.
This variation in height between the main road and canal levels has provided an opportunity for the designers to create interesting podium solution underneath the cubical floors above.

The Client’s vision is to realize a simple, attractive, elegant residential building, not necessarily iconic, but still distinguished in its cutting edge design approach through efficient space planning, smart selection of materials and systems, and fine craftsmanship, including sufficient parking, amenities and facilities, which will position it a class above the neighboring developments, within the popular business district of Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC).
Not only must it be functionally well-designed and in line with Master Developer`s vision, but it must reflect the spirit of the Client’s vision and targets as well.
Our approach was to exceed the Client’s target and, through progressive evolution of two towers which engulf each other in a delusional twist, create a land mark in the ADNEC district.
The apartment`s spacious and practical qualities will drive people and families to live and spend their time in a pleasant environment, meeting the needs of 21st century lifestyle. The project developed at the plot RBW2-28 on the Khor Al Raha - North, Abu Dhabi contains quality residential apartments compliant with the international standards and easily surpasses its neighbors. Quality mean not only the materials, systems and hardware applied, but spatial layouts allowing high level functionality and extended comfort. We at BEAD Architects & Engineers understand the importance of the project`s position, therefore this future building shall:
interact with and enhance the surrounding city`s street life,
ensure that the facilities and it`s landscaped front satisfy the Master Developer’s requirements and provide the Client with best revenue from the retail component within.
We studied the site from different perspectives (architectural, technical, perceptual, etc.) and solution with the richest possible outcome for the building was adopted. We believe that the success of a residential building`s emergence, functionality and marketing value is based in general on the right design concept, producing:
simple, but memorable appearance by delicate and moderate means,

fully comfortable, efficient internal circulation strategy, while satisfying regulations,
smart apartment layouts with special provisions,
providing value for money and fast return on investment,
durable materials,

As a result, we implemented a clear contemporary identity in the design. The shape of the building responds to the different conditions on each side of the plot. The volume utilizes the site`s attributes at most and create experience to the users at the micro-urban context.

We implemented simple yet elegant contemporary approach to create identity in the design of both towers, inspired by the elegant bending lines of the boat shapes berthed in the Reem Marina. The shape and position of the buildings respond to the different requirements on each side of the two plots. The orientation and setting of the two towers over the three-level shared podium maximizes daylight and reduces direct views into neighboring / opposite apartments while enjoying views over the Marina and Urban Art Trail.
Both buildings are “sliced vertically” into two “smaller” volumes, creating naturally lit inner hallways. This creates exciting sensation to the users and helps with better circulation inside of the building. The major emphasis is put into realizing functional aesthetics of harmony to achieve, not only pleasant appearance, but ensures the comfort of its inhabitants. The internal qualities of the apartments are reflected on the exterior and provide attractive residential environment.
In the residential building the apartments are placed on both sides of the hallway. More than half of the apartments enjoy the Marina views, while the smaller number of these are provided with panoramic cityscape views of Reem Island above the low-rise parking building located on the North side of the plot.
All apartments in the serviced apartment building enjoy Marina views and are served by the building main circulation / service core which is located to the back in the area surrounded by other towers. Provided is a horizontal cut of 2 levels on 10th & 11th floors, where F&B outlet will be placed with extended terraces of exciting marina views that offer relaxing environment, and enhanced commercial benefits.
Landscape concept on the top of the podium is integrated into the design by means of three large details: the articulation of the facade, which through its detailing creates various organic textures and patterns; expansive views over the Marina; and the flexibility to easily split the two plots into two separate configurations or combine the podium roof into one layout.
All required BOH spaces are provided within the podium lower levels, as well as adequate car parking provisions, plant rooms, loading/unloading areas, and other services. The podium prime areas accommodate the offices, retail and F&B outlets overviewing the lively promenade.
The facade of the towers is derived from micro-design features which interweave elements, such as bay windows and balconies into one continuous line. Intertwining lines and surfaces wrap the apartments, seamlessly incorporating sun screening where needed, whilst also ensure that the inner qualities of the apartments and the outer appearance of the building together form a unified whole. The buildings are similar in design, but each distinctive in itself, complementing each other to create a well-integrated development.

The design translates the importance of the law in the UAE in a Grand and elegant building following the principles of Symmetry, Majesty, Harmony and Equality.
The city of Al Ain is an inland oasis city and it is also called “Garden City” for its palm groves and natural springs. The historic oasis sprawls across 3,000-acres and provides a unique insight into the region’s inhabitants who began taming the desert 4,000 years ago. The Al Ain Oasis has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011. The Landscape plays an important role within the project. It anchors the building to the urban context, offering a gathering space for visitors and employees. The project tries to interpret within the architectural language of these natural elements.

The Client’s brief for this project was to realize a self-contained and sustainable residential compound, with a mix of small, medium and big apartments as well complimentary services and facilities.
The site is located next to a local airport whereby the issue of noise represented a crucial concern, thus smart planning and innovative architectural solutions were needed.
The design approach utilized a modernized adoption of the Arabian courtyard concept, where all residential units and living spaces overlook beautifully landscaped central garden.
In order to solve the issue of airport proximity and related noise; the building façade facing the airport’s runway was designed as a solid wall with small fenestrations of triple glazed panels. The functional space planning of the typical residential floors at the side of the airport allowed for public hallways and lobbies to run along the airport side, while the apartments grouped inwards and facing the central gardens. This smart planning and façade design secured the required solution sought by the Client.
The project was designed to achieve Gold LEED certification as well as compliance with 3 Pearls local green building design rating.

The museum is not only a place for exhibition but an experience in itself by creating diverse set of scenes that interacts with the visitor’s inner feelings. Its façade and silhouette is an abstraction of what the emigrants lived during a critical moment of their existence, seeking better life and opportunities.
Structural surface gradually transforms from the land to the water. Entering the building you find yourself emerge in different density of light. This is obtained through different patterns of the glass scattered on the building giving you a sense of disorientation. As you go further in the exhibition areas, towards the sea, brighter and more positive spaces are appearing.
The iconic building will be pointing to the sea in the memory of those who came towards a better life in search for a new beginning.

This Pearl sits in a calm pool of water. On one side facing the Ka’aba a crescent is engraved. We also commissioned an Arab scholar to provide historic research material on forts from a wider geographical area. Looking into the past and the future by carrying-out energy modeling on the design to assess any thermal insulation benefits the thicker walls may provide. In an almost empty area of Bani Yas West is a high demand on accommodation as some of the new projects being developed in Baniyas City (East) are not easily accessible. The population comprise 70% locals and 30% expatriates, but this percentage is very slowly changing, which affects the proposed design vision due to the nature of the users. As per all the requirements taken into account, an attractive village-like residential complex with support amenities and facilities is proposed. The challenge was to meet the program within multi-level site and to create diversity within the set budget. The idea will included an interplay of voids, masses and different heights of the buildings.

The Integrated Car Parking Residence is a place for Living / Shopping / Parking. After analyzing the site and its surroundings, the main strategy was identified. In this part of the city, there is unsatisfied demand for parking facilities. By giving an easy access to the site from the main road, a ‘core’ role to the parking, where “living” realm grows around the ‘core’, this building satisfies its own requirements and in addition helps the city with the parking problem in this area. The retail activity is open to the public, exposed to the street and focused on the ground floor giving the “welcome” feel. The living consists of studio / 1 / 2 / 3 bedroom apartments with balconies and private gardens. The Roof Green completes the puzzle with water features and landscape.

This rational layout enables faculty and students alike to enjoy a blend of interrelated activities and facilities on this urban site. The six partly-elevated colleges are gathered around a central “hub of intelligence” which contains the campus library and students community centre, and provides for flexibility in use as well as efficient construction. The Deanship at the entry corner of the site and the sports complex at the opposite corner are aligned along the site’s diagonal axis.

Clients Vision for Extreme Marine facilities in Abu Dhabi is the destination for boat owners, supplying precision marine equipment, featuring products from Mercury Racing. They have facilities such as showroom/exhibition areas, a highly operational spare parts section, a training centre for all its employees, and multiple workshops to ensure high quality service throughout the entire life cycle of the products. Key elements of their operations include trust, clarity, and support, and this should be reflected in the design through how the programme is connected to each other, as well as in the efficiency of each space.

The new KCGEB project will provide the Client with a glimpse into the future of world-class Research for the UAE. However, the conceptual design of the facilities must be addressed in the program to assure that appropriate infrastructure is provided in the proper sequence, and that the building is designed for optimal usage. Therefore, we must define the future of the new site, once selected close to the UAE University, through the conceptual design process and program definition phases.
